Netflix Announced the Return of “The Umbrella Academy”
Netflix confirmed its graphic novel-based TV show “The Umbrella Academy” will return in 2022 with its Season 3.
With that great news, Netflix also confirmed Season 3 will be set in Hotel Oblivion, which is a very well-known location for the fans of the source graphic novel.
The Umbrella Academy was the graphic novel released by Dark Horse Comics in 2007 through 2009 and it featured two volumes. The novel was revived with the third volume, named “Hotel Oblivion”, in 2018.
For those who don’t know, Hotel Oblivion is the prison that the patriarch of the Umbrella Academy built for supervillains to lock them in a different dimension. Members of the Academy found out about it in the third volume of the comics and looks like we can expect the same now in live-action incarnation.
Netflix’s live-action show based on the novel premiered its first season in February 2019, while the second season followed up in July 2020. Waiting for the third season will be the longest hiatus for the fans of the show yet, but from the promised setting, it seems it will be worth it.
The show received acclaim from both critics and the audience. It was nominated for six Emmy awards (two in 2019, four in 2021), and currently holds a solid 8.0 rating on IMDb.
“The Umbrella Academy” showrunner and its executive producer is Steve Blackman. The show stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, David Castañeda, Robert Sheehan, Justin H. Min, Aidan Gallagher, and Colm Feore.
The first two seasons of “The Umbrella Academy” are streaming now on Netflix.
