Netflix Axes Another Series After Just Two Seasons
Netflix has decided not to continue with a third season of FUBAR, the spy action series starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. This announcement came about a month and a half after Season 2 was released on June 12, 2025. Despite Schwarzenegger’s huge star power, the show struggled to keep its audience, leading to the cancellation after just two seasons.
FUBAR first premiered in May 2023 and had a strong start, helped in part by Schwarzenegger’s worldwide fame. Monica Barbaro, who stars alongside him, had also gained attention by becoming an Oscar nominee between the first and second seasons for her work in A Complete Unknown. However, when Season 2 finally arrived more than two years later, the show’s viewership dropped sharply.
According to Netflix viewing data, Season 2 barely made it into the Top 10 English-language shows during its first week, landing at the very bottom with 2.2 million views from Thursday to Sunday. This was a big drop from Season 1’s premiere weekend, which drew about 11 million viewers.
In its first full week, Season 2 peaked at number seven with 3.3 million views, and it briefly returned to the Top 10 in the third week with 1.8 million views before falling off entirely.
The series follows Luke Brunner, played by Schwarzenegger, and his daughter Emma, played by Monica Barbaro. They have been lying to each other for years without knowing that both are secretly CIA agents. When they finally discover the truth, they must learn to work together on dangerous missions. The show explores the tension between their professional and personal lives, especially as Luke struggles to treat Emma like an adult rather than a child.
Other main cast members include Milan Carter as Barry, the CIA tech expert on Luke’s team, and Gabriel Luna as Boro Polonia, a powerful arms dealer in Season 1. The show also features actors like Fortune Feimster, Travis Van Winkle, Fabiana Udenio, Jay Baruchel, and Carrie-Anne Moss, who joined in Season 2 as a former spy connected to Luke’s past.
Despite the star-studded cast and exciting premise, critics were mixed on the show. Rotten Tomatoes gave the first season a 51% approval rating based on 57 critic reviews. The website’s critics consensus described it as “just OK,” saying, “With jokes that fall flat and a story that borrows liberally from star Arnold Schwarzenegger’s earlier career triumphs, FUBAR is just OK.” Metacritic assigned the first season a score of 48 out of 100, indicating mixed or average reviews.
Season 2 didn’t improve much critically either. Rotten Tomatoes rated it 46% based on 13 critic reviews, with the consensus noting, “FUBAR doesn’t mess with its formula beyond recognition in a second season that’s not without its charms but still hampered by clunky scripting.” Metacritic gave it a slightly better score of 59 out of 100, still indicating mixed or average reviews.
Even though FUBAR was the most streamed TV series for the week it premiered in May 2023, it couldn’t hold onto its audience long-term. Now, Netflix officially canceled the show due to the steep decline in viewership for Season 2, ending Schwarzenegger’s latest streaming action series after just two seasons.
