Netflix Confirms Its Most Popular Show Won’t Return Until 2027
Netflix has released an early look at its TV lineup for 2026, and while the list is packed with major titles, several popular shows are noticeably absent. The missing series are not canceled, but their next seasons are taking longer than usual and are now expected to arrive in 2027 or later.
In recent years, Netflix has tried to shorten the gap between seasons by renewing shows early. This strategy has helped many dramas return faster. Series like The Diplomat, The Night Agent, Virgin River, Monster, and The Lincoln Lawyer are now closer to a steady release schedule. Most comedies also fall into this faster cycle.
Still, some dramas remain difficult to produce on a yearly basis. These shows often require large sets, heavy post-production work, or long filming schedules. As a result, several well-known titles will skip 2026 entirely.

Netflix’s 2026 slate includes final seasons of Outer Banks and The Witcher, along with new seasons of Bridgerton, One Piece, and Beef. However, fans will not see new seasons of Wednesday or Ginny & Georgia next year. Newer shows like Ransom Canyon, Untamed, and Forever are also missing from the list.
The delay of Wednesday is not surprising. The series is one of Netflix’s biggest and most complex productions. Large-scale shows like this often need close to two years between seasons. Season 2 arrives in 2026, and Netflix has already renewed the show for Season 3. That next chapter is expected to begin filming in early 2026 and is currently planned for a 2027 release.
Ginny & Georgia has followed a steady two-year pattern since its debut. With Season 3 arriving in 2025, Season 4 is still in production and is not expected to be ready before 2027.
Several freshman series are also on longer timelines. Ransom Canyon, which debuted earlier this year, is close to finishing work on Season 2 and is aiming for an early 2027 release. Forever, based on the Judy Blume novel, is also nearing the end of production on its second season and is expected around the same time.
Untamed, starring Eric Bana, started as a limited series. After its strong performance, Netflix decided to continue it. That change required a creative reset, which pushed its second season into a longer schedule. It is now expected in early 2027.
International shows are facing similar delays. UK series Supacell saw its production schedule pushed back after a cast-related controversy. As a result, the gap between seasons will be longer than planned. The thriller Dept. Q is already filming its second season and could return in 2027, possibly sooner.
Canada’s Bet and the British-Canadian teen series Geek Girl are also missing from the 2026 lineup. Geek Girl is especially puzzling, as its second season has reportedly finished filming. If it slips to 2027, the break between seasons will be close to three years.
Another surprise is Heartbreak High. Its final season finished production early in 2025 but still does not have a confirmed release date.
Also absent from the schedule is Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney, which is part of a two-season order. Netflix has not yet said when the next season will air.
Overall, Netflix’s lineup shows a clear split. Many shows are returning faster thanks to early renewals, while others remain stuck in long production cycles. For fans of the delayed series, patience will be required.
