Netflix Drops First Look at Charlie Hunnam in ‘Monster’ Season 3, Reveals Release Date
Netflix has released the first look at Charlie Hunnam in Monster: The Ed Gein Story, the third season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true-crime anthology. The streamer also confirmed that the new season will arrive on October 3, with all episodes dropping on the same day.
This season focuses on Ed Gein, the Wisconsin man who became infamous in the 1950s for murder and grave robbing.
Often called the “Butcher of Plainfield,” Gein’s gruesome crimes inspired decades of horror, influencing films like Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs.

Netflix describes the story as one of its darkest yet. The streamer says, “Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho. In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm – hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare.”
The logline continues that Gein’s twisted acts, driven by his obsession with his mother, “gave birth to fictional monsters born in his image and ignited a cultural obsession with the criminally deviant.”

Hunnam plays Gein at the center of the story, while the cast also features Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, and Suzanna Son. Other actors include Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Charlie Hall, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill, and Robin Weigert.

The show comes from executive producers Murphy and Brennan, who also created the series. They are joined by Max Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Louise Shore, Carl Franklin, and Hunnam himself. Both Brennan and Winkler also directed episodes.
Netflix is calling this season its most chilling yet, following the success of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. With Hunnam leading as Ed Gein, the franchise is now turning to one of America’s most disturbing real-life figures.
