Netflix Is Working On New ‘Black Mirror’ Series

British anthology series Black Mirror first appeared in 2011 on British Channel 4, and after two series and one special, it moved to Netflix which made three more series and a film. The last, fifth series, premiered on the streamer in June 2019. The fifth series only had three episodes, and it was expected that will be the finale of Black Mirror, but now, after three years, Black Mirror will return.

The Black Mirror Season 5 consisted of only three episodes and it starred Andrew Scott, Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, and Miley Cyrus. Now, as Variety reported, the upcoming sixth series will have more episodes than the fifth one. The forthcoming series will have a higher budget and every episode will be treated as a separate film, considering that Netflix reportedly wants to create a more cinematic approach.

The upcoming series of Black Mirror is the first to happen after the creator Charlie Brooker left the production company House of Tomorrow. He and his creative partner, Annabel Jones, started a new company Broke and Bones, and Netflix invested in the company and offered them a deal worth $100 million. But, even though Brooker and Jones left House of Tomorrow, the rights for Black Mirror remained with Banijay Group. Although that prevented Brooker and Jones from working on a new series, it seems like a new deal with Netflix was finally made.

Not much is known about the upcoming sixth series, but it’s definitely good news that it’s coming. We’ll stay tuned for any further information.
