Netflix is officially expanding its reality competition universe with a star-studded spin-off titled Squid Game: The VIP Challenge. This new iteration shifts the focus from the general public to eight high-profile celebrities who will participate in the high-stakes games popularized by the original series.

According to a recent announcement from the streaming platform, these VIP contestants will be tasked with testing their wit, strategy, and skillset in an environment designed to push them to their limits. The diverse cast includes several familiar faces from the worlds of sports, music, and reality television.

Among the competitors are Spice Girls icon Mel B and NBA champion Tristan Thompson, both of whom bring significant competitive experience to the arena. They will be joined by The Bachelor standout Hannah Godwin, Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Kim Zolciak, and Ryan Serhant, the real estate mogul known for Owning Manhattan.

The lineup also features Dylan Efron, known for his travel and adventure content, and digital creator Kristy Sarah. Adding a layer of history to the competition is a returning player known as Viper, who secured his spot in the VIP edition after winning a fan vote during the show’s second season.

While Netflix has yet to confirm the exact prize pool or the specific games that will be featured, the format is expected to mirror the intense psychological and physical challenges of its predecessor. Returning player Viper has already signaled his intent to be a disruptive force, stating he plans to cause chaos upon his re-entry into the game.

He noted that his previous experience taught him that every single decision should be considered in great detail and promised to analyze every move with a figurative microscope. This strategic mindset will likely be necessary, as the show has become famous for its ruthless eliminations and unpredictable twists.

The broader Squid Game franchise continues to be a massive draw for the streamer, with the original Korean drama having concluded its final season in June 2025. The reality spinoff, Squid Game: The Challenge, recently completed its second season in late 2025 and has already been greenlit for a third installment.

Critics have noted that the reality version of the show manages to capture the addictive nature of the original drama, even if it lacks the same socio-economic commentary. As one reviewer observed, the entertainment value of the games remains pretty fun to watch as long as viewers don’t dwell too heavily on the moral implications of the contest.

The various celebrities involved in The VIP Challenge have been keeping busy with their own individual projects ahead of the competition. Mel B has been active in promoting a potential 30th-anniversary reunion for the Spice Girls, while Dylan Efron recently launched a new YouTube series titled Everything’s a Competition.

With the production of the celebrity edition expected to wrap up soon, fans are eagerly awaiting a confirmed premiere date to see which VIP will ultimately survive the games and win it all.
