Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle is taking over the global box office, and now Netflix wants in on the action.

Entertainment insider Daniel Richtman has reported that the streaming platform is rushing to develop a live-action version of the hit franchise, hoping to ride the wave of excitement left by the anime’s historic success.

Infinity Castle, released in July in Japan and later worldwide, has shattered records. The film earned more than $550 million globally, becoming the top-grossing Japanese film of all time and one of the biggest movies of the year.

Critics praised its action and visuals, though some felt the pacing could have been smoother. Despite these minor criticisms, its worldwide appeal has been undeniable.

Unlike earlier films that stitched together episodes from the TV series, Infinity Castle is a full theatrical project and the first entry in a trilogy.

Directed by Haruo Sotozaki and produced by Ufotable, the movie adapts one of the manga’s most dramatic arcs. Its huge success has proven that the franchise still commands massive attention, both in Japan and internationally.

Netflix currently doesn’t hold streaming rights for the film, which has only fueled speculation about the company’s next move.

According to Richtman, the streamer is now aggressively fast-tracking its own live-action adaptation. The goal is clear: capture longtime anime fans while also reaching a new audience that may have missed the original story.

The decision shows how valuable the Demon Slayer brand has become. With its gripping story of Tanjiro and his fight for justice against demons, the series has become a worldwide cultural phenomenon.

For Netflix, the live-action project could be the key to keeping the franchise alive on its platform and ensuring it doesn’t lose ground to rivals.
