Netflix might be bringing back one of gaming’s most famous mascots. According to What’s on Netflix, the streaming service is “quietly developing” an animated series based on Crash Bandicoot, the wild and goofy marsupial who first spun his way onto PlayStation back in 1996.

The report says that animation studio WildBrain is working on the show. WildBrain has teamed up with Netflix before for projects like Sonic Prime, Ninjago: Dragons Rising, and Carmen Sandiego. The studio is also currently making a Minecraft animated series for the platform.

Right now, not much is known about the Crash Bandicoot show. It’s unclear if it will follow the story from the games or tell something completely new, according to What’s on Netflix.

Crash Bandicoot first appeared in the classic PlayStation game created by Naughty Dog, the same studio behind The Last of Us.

The franchise started as a PlayStation-only series but later jumped to other consoles. After Crash: Mind Over Mutant came out in 2008, the series went quiet for years. Then, in 2017, the remastered collection Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy brought the character back to life and helped him reach a new audience.

A few years later, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time was released in 2020 and received good reviews. However, sales didn’t meet Activision’s expectations, and a planned sequel, Crash 5, was eventually canceled. Since then, fans have only gotten a mobile game and the multiplayer title Crash Team Rumble.

This wouldn’t be Crash’s first time on Netflix, though. He previously showed up in a few episodes of Skylanders Academy, another animated show that featured characters from Activision’s games.

If this new series moves forward, it will join Netflix’s growing lineup of video game adaptations, which already includes shows based on Horizon and Assassin’s Creed.

For now, Crash fans will just have to wait and see if the orange bandicoot will be spinning his way back onto screens once again.
