Netflix has confirmed that Outer Banks will end with its fifth season, which is set to come out in 2026. Filming has already started in Charleston, South Carolina, and fans have gotten their first peek at what’s coming.

The final season will bring some changes. Two actors, Cullen Moss and J. Anthony Crane, are now part of the main cast. Moss has been around since the beginning as Sheriff Shoupe. Crane, who appeared in Season 4 as Chandler Groff, JJ’s father, is also getting a bigger role. These casting changes suggest that both characters will be more important this season.

Netflix also shared two new photos from the set. The images show the remaining Pogues, but there’s a noticeable change, JJ, played by Rudy Pankow, is missing. He died at the end of Season 4, and it looks like Drew Starkey’s character, Rafe, has stepped into his place in the group.

Rafe’s shift from villain to ally began in the last season when he joined the Pogues to hunt for treasure and help them get revenge for JJ’s death. His new bond with the group could be key in the final chapter. At the same time, Chandler Groff is expected to be the main villain after what he did to his own son.

Sheriff Shoupe might also play a bigger role this time. He’s changed a lot since the early seasons, going from a crooked cop to someone who wants to do the right thing. He may now be more involved with helping the Pogues.

Alongside the core cast, Austin North and Fiona Palomo will return as Topper and Sofia. These characters have played major parts in past seasons and will likely have roles in the story’s end.

Since it first launched, Outer Banks has pulled in nearly 200 million views and showed up on Netflix’s Top 10 list many times. The show’s creators—Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke, are wrapping things up with this last season. As Josh Pate told Deadline, “When we get to the end, I think everyone’s going to be satisfied that we bring everything home and all the stories are wrapped up.”

This final season looks like it’s going to be intense, with a new team dynamic and a major villain to face. Personally, I think ending now is a smart move. The story has had some great moments, and it’s better to close on a strong note. What do you think about where Outer Banks is headed? Share your thoughts in the comments!
