Netflix has dropped the first trailer for Billionaires’ Bunker, the latest series from Álex Pina, the creator behind the global hit Money Heist. The new Spanish drama will premiere worldwide on September 19, and promises to deliver another high-stakes story packed with tension and intrigue.

The show, known in Spanish as El Refugio Atómico, imagines what happens when a group of the world’s richest people retreat underground as World War III looms.

Inside their state-of-the-art luxury bunker, they have everything from gyms and spas to cocktail bars and gardens. But as the outside world collapses, old grudges and family rivalries start to boil over. Netflix describes the series as a look at privilege under pressure, where an underground paradise becomes a cage filled with secrets.

Billionaires’ Bunker is co-created by Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato, who has worked on every one of Pina’s Netflix projects, including Berlin, Sky Rojo, White Lines, and Money Heist. Directing duties are shared by David Barrocal, Jesús Colmenar, and J.M. Cravioto.

The show comes from Vancouver Media, the same studio that brought Money Heist to life.

Filming took place at Netflix’s Tres Cantos hub in Madrid. The production made use of advanced “volume” technology, the same style of virtual sets used in big-budget projects, to create a 360-degree world for the cast.

During a set visit last year, reporters got a look at how this technology was used in scenes that mix futuristic design with claustrophobic tension.

The series will feature eight episodes and has a cast led by Natalia Verbeke, Joaquín Furriel, Miren Ibarguren, Carlos Santos, Alícia Falcó, Álex Villazán, Samuel López, Omar Banana, Montse Guallar, and Miguel Garcés. Joining them are Pau Simon, Monica Mara, and Agustina Bisio.

The official synopsis sets the tone clearly: “Imagine that World War III is about to break out and a group of billionaires takes refuge in a luxury bunker: Kimera Underground Park. Through screens, they’ll watch the bewildering spectacle of the world they knew collapsing above their heads.”

“As the situation outside becomes increasingly terrifying, they’ll enjoy an underground city with basketball court, restaurant, zen garden, cocktail bar, psychologist’s couch, gym and spa. Their ancient privilege will be reduced to a life adapted to a luxurious hole, an underground universe full of enigmas where a wound from the past will explode between two conflicting families.”
