Netflix has officially started casting for its untitled live-action Scooby-Doo series, and fans are already excited to see the new faces behind the beloved characters. The show will follow the early adventures of Mystery Inc. and show how the gang first came together.

Mckenna Grace, known for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping and Regretting You, will play Daphne Blake. Tanner Hagen, from The Pitt and Dark Light, is cast as Shaggy Rogers. Velma Dinkley will be played by Abby Ryder Fortson, who appeared in Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret and Carousel, and Maxwell Jenkins of Lost in Space and The Bondsman will take on the role of Fred Jones. Of course, the gang’s famous dog, Scooby-Doo, will be right there with them.

The story is set during the gang’s last summer at Camp Ruby-Spears. Shaggy and Daphne, two old friends, find themselves caught up in a strange mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy that may have seen a supernatural murder.

With help from Velma, the pragmatic and smart townie, and Freddy, the new kid who is both strange and surprisingly charming, the group tries to solve the case. The mystery pulls all of them into a dark and creepy adventure that could reveal secrets they’ve been keeping.

“During their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever-so-handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets,” the synopsis revealed.

Scooby-Doo has been entertaining fans for over 50 years, and Netflix is now expanding its universe. The streaming giant has successfully adapted other fan-favorite franchises like Wednesday, ONE PIECE, Stranger Things, and Bridgerton, all of which have drawn huge audiences worldwide.

The series is being executive produced by Josh Appelbaum, Scott Rosenberg, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson. Toby Haynes is also an executive producer and will direct the first episode.

Netflix hasn’t announced a release date yet, but fans can expect more updates on this live-action Scooby-Doo series in the coming months.
