James Bond is heading to Netflix in a deal that has surprised many people in the streaming world. The news was first reported by Deadline, which cited sources close to Amazon.

Starting January 15, Netflix will begin streaming four major Bond films. The titles include Die Another Day, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and No Time to Die. The movies will be available in several regions, including the United States, much of Europe, the Nordics, and Latin America.

The agreement means that most of Daniel Craig’s time as James Bond will now be easy to find on Netflix. From his early run in the role to his final film, viewers will be able to watch a large part of his Bond era on the platform. One Pierce Brosnan Bond film is also part of the deal.

This licensing agreement is not limited to the Bond franchise. Netflix is also set to receive other Amazon-owned titles. These include films from the Rocky and Creed series, Legally Blonde, and the TV series The Man in the High Castle. Earlier this month, the Amazon-backed series Hunters also became available on Netflix.

Sources at Amazon told Deadline that the decision was made to expand the audience for these titles and bring them to more viewers around the world. The move suggests that major streaming companies are becoming more open to sharing content after years of keeping shows and films exclusive.

Chris Ottinger, Head of Worldwide Distribution at Amazon MGM Studios, commented on the deal. “When Amazon acquired MGM, Amazon’s plan was to continue licensing MGM’s iconic library to streaming and television partners around the world. Bringing these iconic films and shows to Netflix is part of that continued strategy.”

“James Bond remains one of the most enduring and influential franchises in cinematic history… and this agreement reflects the continued global appetite for premium storytelling and the strong working relationship we’ve built with Netflix.”

Despite the deal, Amazon is still keeping a strong hold on the Bond brand. Prime Video continues to feature Bond films each year around Global James Bond Day, and MGM+ runs Bond programming through the end of the year. Amazon is also moving forward with a new Bond movie, which is set to be directed by Denis Villeneuve.
