Netflix’s Adult Competition Drama Just Hit the Streaming Platform & It Seems Like It’s a Huge Hit

Olympo is a new Spanish sports drama series that just dropped on Netflix, created by Jan Matheu, Laia Foguet, and Ibai Abad. The show takes place in a high-performance sports academy in the Pyrenees, and it’s already getting attention for being intense, emotional, and packed with drama. It premiered on Netflix on June 20, 2025.
At the center of the story is Amaia Olaberria, played by Clara Galle, a super disciplined and perfectionist swimmer who also happens to be the captain of her team. Things get messy when her best friend, Nuria Bórgues (played by María Romanillos), beats her in a race for the first time.
After that, Amaia starts noticing that some athletes around her are suddenly performing way too well—almost like they’re being helped by something unnatural. That’s when she starts digging, and what she finds begins to shake her view of the academy and the people around her.
The show also stars Nuno Gallego, Nira Osahia, Agustín Della Corte, Andy Duato, Najwa Khliwa, Juan Perales, and Martí Cordero. It’s a large and young cast, and most of them play students or athletes training at the academy. A few familiar faces also make short appearances in the first two episodes, including Melina Matthews and Nico Furtado.
Netflix first announced Olympo back in July 2024. Shooting had already started by then, and the exterior shots of the academy were filmed at the Balneario de Panticosa in Huesca, which gives the show a beautiful mountain backdrop.
On April 29, 2025, Netflix released the first teaser for the show and confirmed the release date.
People are definitely excited, especially fans of Elite and those looking for a fresh mix of teen drama, ambition, secrets, and complicated friendships, all set in a competitive sports environment.
If you’re into shows that mix intensity, mystery, and some real-world themes, Olympo might just be your next binge.
