KPop Demon Hunters has turned out to be one of Netflix’s biggest animated hits of 2025, and now it looks like the story might be far from over. According to Puck News, Sony Pictures Animation & Netflix are already talking about a sequel and more projects set in the same universe.

The film, which premiered on Netflix on June 20, 2025, follows Huntr/x, a K-pop girl group who secretly fight demons. Their latest challenge is going up against the Saja Boys, a rival boy band whose members are actually demons in disguise. It’s a mix of music, fantasy, and high-energy action, all brought to life with a vibrant animation style influenced by concert lighting, music videos, Korean dramas, and anime.

Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the movie features the voices of Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun. The soundtrack became a hit in its own right, topping charts around the world.

The project was originally conceived by Kang, who wanted to tell a story inspired by her Korean heritage, blending mythology, demon lore, and K-pop culture. Sony Pictures Animation produced and developed the film, with animation work by Sony Pictures Imageworks.

Now, Puck News says Sony is negotiating with Kang and Appelhans to return for a follow-up. Kang has already shared her excitement for telling more stories in this world. Speaking to Screen Rant recently, she said there are still many mysteries left to explore. “There are a lot of pockets that we can explore,” she explained, mentioning possible backstories for characters like Mira and Zoey.

Appelhans also said that he sees a lot of room to expand the story. “There are so many unanswered questions, in a good way, and so many avenues that could be their own story,” he said.

TheWrap reported in July 2025 that Netflix is looking into several possible follow-up projects. These could include two sequels, a TV series, a short film, and even a stage musical. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but given the success of KPop Demon Hunters, it seems likely that fans will be getting more of Huntr/x and their demon-hunting adventures in the future.
