Netflix’s live-action take on Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga has earned its place as a standout success. Widely seen as the top anime adaptation in live-action form, the show grabbed attention right away. Its first season, which dropped on August 31, 2023, includes eight episodes and quickly won over fans. With that kind of response, it’s no shock that a second season got the green light. While an exact premiere date remains under wraps, Netflix has locked in 2025 for the release, promising no long waits for viewers.

Production for the next season is set to kick off in June 2024. This timeline gives the team plenty of room to craft another strong set of episodes, ready to land on the streaming service next year.

Alongside this news, Netflix shared some updates on the creative crew. Joe Tracz, known for his work as co-executive producer on Percy Jackson and the Olympians, is stepping in as a writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner.

He’ll team up with Matt Owens, who’s written for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Luke Cage. Steve Maeda, a key figure from Season 1 as co-showrunner with Owens, will stay on board but shift to an executive producer role. Tomorrow Studios, the group behind the Cowboy Bebop live-action and Snowpiercer, will keep co-producing with Netflix.

On the casting front, details are still thin. No new actors have been named yet, even though Season 2 will bring in fresh characters. The returning lineup, though, is confirmed. Iñaki Godoy will be back as Luffy, alongside Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Morgan Davies as Koby, Vincent Regan as Monkey D. Garp, and Jeff Ward as Buggy the Clown.

More updates are expected as 2025 gets closer. Fans can look forward to hearing about new cast members and plot hints in the coming months. For now, the story’s next steps are easy to guess for those familiar with the manga, but specifics will come later. Keep an eye out for more news as it rolls in.
