Netflix is bringing a brand new political thriller to screens this summer, and it’s called Hostage. The five-part British miniseries stars Julie Delpy and Suranne Jones as two powerful world leaders caught in a dangerous international crisis.

The show is set to premiere on August 21, 2025.

The story follows a tense situation during a high-profile summit between the leaders of France and the UK. Things take a dark turn when the British Prime Minister’s husband is suddenly kidnapped.

At the same time, the French President finds herself being blackmailed. What starts as a diplomatic event quickly spirals into a suspense-filled game of power and secrets.

Julie Delpy plays Vivienne Toussaint, the President of France, while Suranne Jones takes on the role of British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton. Other cast members include Corey Mylchreest as Matheo Lewis, Lucian Msamati as Kofi Adomako, Ashley Thomas as Dr. Alex Anderson, James Cosmo as Max, and Jehnny Beth as Adrienne Pelletier.

The show was written by Matt Charman and produced by Netflix together with Binocular Productions. Filming started in March 2024 under the working title The Choice. It took place in the UK and on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands. The final title, Hostage, was confirmed in January 2025.

A new trailer for the series has just been released, giving viewers a first look at the intense atmosphere and gripping drama. It hints at complex political tensions and emotional stakes, with both leaders facing impossible decisions.

Hostage brings together a strong cast and a high-stakes plot that mixes politics, personal drama, and suspense. According to Netflix, it will arrive on the streaming platform worldwide on August 21.
