Netflix’s ‘The Gift of Deceit’ Release Date, Cast, Trailer, and Plot
‘The Gift of Deceit’ is a Brazilian Netflix Original thriller series created and co-written by Diane Maia and Mirna Nogueira. The ten episode series is set in Rio de Janeiro and centers on a story of family intrigue, manipulation and shocking twists. With the trailer now public and the premiere only a day away, the show is drawing attention as one of the platform’s more novel-flavored international releases.
The series carries the original Portuguese title ‘Dom de Iludir’. It arrives two years after the well received ‘Pedaço de Mim’ and leans openly into its soap opera roots with a plot packed with family intrigue, manipulation and reversals. Here is what is confirmed about the release, the cast, the footage released so far and the story.
‘The Gift of Deceit’ Release Date and Where to Watch
Netflix has confirmed that the series will be released globally on October 28, 2026. That makes the premiere tomorrow, since today is October 27. All ten episodes are expected to reach the catalog on that date.
The full season is landing at once rather than in weekly installments. For viewers who like to binge a melodrama in a single stretch, that suits the format well. The release is part of a year in which Brazil has hit its stride with new Netflix Originals.
Cast and Characters in ‘The Gift of Deceit’
Marieta Severo plays art collector Lúcia Rossetti, Alice Wegmann plays her daughter Maíra Rossetti, and Nanda Costa plays Irina. The supporting cast includes José de Abreu, Felipe Camargo, Luciana Paes, Laila Garin, Rui Ricardo Diaz, Heloisa Jorge, Allan Souza Lima and Jonas Bloch, among others. Netflix describes the ensemble as made up of big melodrama stars in the country.
The series marks Marieta Severo’s first show for Netflix. Alice Wegmann returns to the streamer after the miniseries ‘Senna’, released in 2024. Netflix announced Severo, Wegmann, Costa and José de Abreu as the leads in November 2025, when filming began in Rio de Janeiro.
The Trailer and Teaser
The first look came in a teaser that featured singer Liniker, who recorded a new version of Caetano Veloso’s song ‘Dom de Iludir’ for the production. The teaser asked viewers who they would trust, and promised a story full of secrets, family intrigue and doubtful alliances. The musical choice signals the tone the series is aiming for.
Netflix unveiled the main trailer on September 30 alongside the premiere date. The official trailer was posted on Netflix’s Brazil YouTube account. The footage presents a gripping tale of manipulation where nothing is quite what it seems.
Plot Details and the Creative Team
Lúcia is desperate to find a cure for the unknown illness afflicting her daughter Maíra, and she turns to a spiritual therapist played by Nanda Costa. When Lúcia becomes the victim of a scam, a web of secrets begins to unravel and exposes the ties between two families bound by love, control, resentment and guilt. Maíra spends much of her time in bed under her mother’s constant and almost obsessive watch.
One official synopsis also points to the theft of artworks worth millions of dollars, which sets a domineering mother, her daughter and a skilled con artist against one another. Netflix places the story amid the luxury of Rio’s elite, blending melodrama and suspense.
Netflix announced the title through its own Netflix newsroom, which also credits the creative team. Diane Maia and Mirna Nogueira created the series, with Nogueira serving as head writer alongside Carol Rodrigues, Felipe Sholl, Josefina Trotta and Pedro Riguetti. Mauro Mendonça Filho serves as general director, with Gabriela Amaral Almeida and Daniela Carvalho also directing.
The series is produced by Conspiração for Netflix, with Amaia as associate producer. Conspiração is the company behind the film ‘Ainda Estou Aqui’, and Mendonça Filho previously directed ‘Verdades Secretas’. With Lúcia placing her trust in a spiritual therapist while her daughter lies ill, do you think her desperation makes the scam believable, or will you be suspicious of Irina from the first episode?
