Netflix’s Upcoming ‘Succession’-Style Power Drama Releases First Trailer

Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming series Amsterdam Empire, a power drama with twists, betrayals, and high-stakes family battles. Fans of shows like Succession can expect a gripping mix of glamor, grit, and shocking secrets.

Set in Amsterdam, the story follows the Van Doorn family, who built a cannabis empire called the Jackal. Jacob Derwig plays Jack van Doorn, the ruthless founder who has clawed his way to the top. But when his affair with a well-known journalist is revealed, his wife Betty, an ex-pop diva played by Famke Janssen, becomes his most dangerous opponent.

“This is my first Dutch-language role,” Janssen said, who also serves as an executive producer. “I wanted to make sure the series felt sharp and authentic.”

Janssen’s character is a former pop star turned mastermind, using her insider knowledge to dismantle her husband’s empire from within. She is joined by Elise Schaap, Jade Olieberg, Jesse Mensah, and Yannick van de Velde, who play members of the Van Doorn family, while Victor Löw, Romana Vrede, Raymond Thiry, and Chris Nietvelt appear in supporting roles.

The show promises intense family drama, complicated relationships, and a look into Amsterdam’s cannabis business. Amsterdam Empire was created by the team behind Undercover and Ferry and is directed by Jonas Govaerts and Max Porcelijn. Production was handled by Pupkin Film and A Team Productions, and filming took place on location in Amsterdam to give the series a realistic and stylish feel.

Netflix confirmed that the series will premiere on October 24, 2025, at the same time in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. The first season will have seven episodes, designed to deliver a fast-paced and binge-worthy story without filler.

The newly released trailer gives viewers a first look at the series’ high-stakes tension, luxurious settings, and the dangerous game between Jack and Betty. With a story of betrayal, revenge, and power struggles, Amsterdam Empire is being positioned as one of Netflix’s next major hits.
