New Close-Up of Ultraman in DCU’s ‘Superman’ Reveals He’s Far More Intimidating and Unusual Than Early Trailers Showed
Excitement is building for the new DC Universe movie Superman, especially after director James Gunn shared a close-up image of Ultraman, one of the film’s main villains. This new picture shows Ultraman looking rough and battle-damaged, much scarier and stranger than the versions fans saw in earlier trailers.
Some viewers have pointed out that this version of Ultraman looks a bit like Doomsday, another well-known DC character. However, Gunn suggests Ultraman still appears more human, especially around the neck area.
Gunn, who also serves as co-CEO of DC Studios, posted the image on social media, which got a lot of attention. In a recent interview, he talked about Ultraman’s role in the movie. “It’s close. Yeah, I think that’s close. Ultra Man is sort of Lex’s thug and is pretty powerful,” he said. This confirms that Ultraman is connected to Lex Luthor’s schemes.
He also mentioned a character named Hammer of Boravia, who many fans think is Ultraman’s secret identity. Gunn confirmed that this character has ties to LuthorCorp, the company owned by Lex Luthor. “Yes, totally. Lex is connected to everything. There’s nothing bad happening in Metropolis during this movie that doesn’t have some connection to Lex Luthor,” Gunn explained.
Fans have been guessing who might be under Ultraman’s mask since the first trailers came out. This new image adds more mystery and hype around the character. It’s clear that Ultraman will be a strong and important villain, acting as a powerful force working for Lex Luthor.
As Superman aims to bring new stories to the DC Universe, the connection between Ultraman and Lex Luthor points to a major conflict. Fans are eager to see how these characters will interact and what surprises the film might have in store.
Superman will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the U.S. on July 11, 2025. It will kick off the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
