ESPN has officially named Shae Cornette as the new host of “First Take,” following the departure of long-time anchor Molly Qerim in September, according to Front Office Sports.

Cornette, who has been a familiar face on ESPN since 2020, expressed excitement about stepping into the role.

“I feel ready to step into this role and know I can add to the already successful brand that First Take is,” Cornette said.

“From my days in radio to hosting SportsCenter and now First Take, my journey at ESPN has been one of growth, challenge, and opportunity. First Take’s energy, perspective and passion represents everything I love about sports, and I’m excited to bring more of that to the debate desk every weekday morning.” She added.

Cornette will continue her duties on SportsCenter until October 25. She had previously guest-hosted on “First Take” after Qerim left, and the network tested several potential replacements before selecting her.

Before joining ESPN, Cornette gained recognition in Chicago as a reporter covering the Bears and appearing on pre- and postgame shows. At ESPN, she has primarily worked as a college football host and SportsCenter anchor.

Molly Qerim’s exit last month surprised many, as she reportedly still had time left on her contract. Despite ESPN offering an extension, she chose to resign abruptly from the show and the network.

Show executive producer Smith expressed full support for Cornette, praising her capabilities. “Hosting ‘First Take’ is no easy assignment. It requires confidence, toughness, and real sports insight — and Shae brings all of that and more,” he said. “I’ve seen her command the desk with poise and passion every time she’s hosted. She’s the real deal, and I’m thrilled to have her officially join the team.”

This change marks a new chapter for “First Take,” and Cornette’s experience across ESPN programming suggests she is well-prepared to take on the daily debate show.
