New Information Emerges from Death Certificates in Rob and Michele Reiner Case
The death certificates for Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner provide new details about the tragic killings. According to PEOPLE, both died within minutes of sustaining knife wounds at their Los Angeles home on December 14.
Rob Reiner, the director of When Harry Met Sally, was found at 3:45 p.m., and his wife was discovered just one minute later. The couple has been cremated.
The documents confirm that both suffered “multiple sharp force injuries” inflicted with [a] knife, by another. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner had previously listed the cause of death as multiple sharp force injuries and classified the deaths as homicides.
News of the Reiners’ deaths first broke on December 14. The New York Times reported that their daughter, Romy Reiner, found her father at the Brentwood home. She immediately alerted authorities, and officers discovered Michele Singer Reiner’s body upon arrival.
Hours later, their son Nick Reiner was arrested in the Exposition Park area of Los Angeles in connection with the deaths. On December 16, he was formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder, with special circumstances including multiple murders and the use of a deadly weapon, a knife.
Nick Reiner appeared in court for the first time on December 17. He confirmed that he would waive his right to a speedy arraignment, which is scheduled for January 7. If convicted, he could face life in state prison without parole or the death penalty.
Multiple outlets have reported that Nick Reiner has been treated for schizophrenia in the past. PEOPLE also reported that he is currently on suicide watch, held in solitary confinement, and required to wear a suicide prevention smock at all times.
The couple’s children, Romy and their older brother Jake, released a statement on December 17 mourning their parents. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
Tracy Reiner, Rob’s adopted daughter from his previous marriage to Penny Marshall, also spoke about the loss. “I came from the greatest family ever,” she told NBC News. “I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”
This case continues to develop, and the new information from the death certificates gives a clearer timeline of the Reiners’ final moments. It’s a heartbreaking story that has shaken both their family and the wider community.
