New details have emerged about Avengers: Doomsday. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, the film will feature multiple versions of Doctor Doom, including a female variant.

This has led to speculation that instead of the planned Council of Kangs from the earlier Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, we could see a Council of Dooms.

It’s not yet clear whether these Doom Variants will be working together or acting as obstacles for Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor Von Doom. Fans are eager to see how this multiverse of villains will unfold; clearly, some key story elements from The Kang Dynasty may have been adapted into Doomsday.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was originally set to be the fifth Avengers film, but Jonathan Majors, who played Kang the Conqueror, faced legal issues after his debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

While many assumed the film was canceled because of this, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that plans to move away from Kang were already in motion. He noted that the character hadn’t been as popular with audiences, and the creative team was considering Doctor Doom as the main villain instead.

Avengers: Doomsday is now confirmed as the fifth Avengers installment and the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely.

The cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr. Among other heroes, the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Wakandans will team up to take on Doctor Doom.

Filming for Doomsday began in April at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional locations in Bahrain, and wrapped in September. The movie will be released in the United States on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU. Its sequel, Secret Wars, is scheduled for December 17, 2027.
