New Look at Buzz Lightyear in Upcoming ‘Toy Story 5’ Released
Pixar has started building excitement for Toy Story 5, and fans got a first look at Buzz Lightyear thanks to a recent release by Empire.
The upcoming animated comedy is being produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures and is set to hit theaters on June 19, 2026, in the United States.
The film will be written and directed by Andrew Stanton and marks the fifth main installment in the beloved Toy Story series.
Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Tony Hale, Blake Clark, and John Ratzenberger are all returning to voice their iconic characters from the previous films. New additions to the cast include Anna Faris, Ernie Hudson, Conan O’Brien, and Greta Lee, who voices a new toy named Lilypad.
The story picks up after Woody left Bonnie to help abandoned toys find new owners. In Bonnie’s room, Jessie has taken the lead, with Buzz Lightyear as her second-in-command. But Bonnie, now eight years old, has a new favorite toy, a frog-like tablet called Lilypad, which shakes up the dynamic among the toys.
Interest in a fifth main Toy Story film has been around for a while. Tim Allen first mentioned the idea in February 2019, and although Hanks had previously said that Toy Story 4 would be the last movie in the series, the possibility of another film remained. Development on Toy Story 5 was officially confirmed in February 2023, with both Hanks and Allen returning. Andrew Stanton was announced as the director in June 2024 and later confirmed to be writing the film.
This will be the first main Toy Story film without co-creator John Lasseter, who left Pixar in 2018.
