New Look at Forgotten Design: Snyder Cut Almost Included Notable Green Lantern

Years after Zack Snyder’s Justice League hit screens, fans are finally getting a look at something that didn’t make the final cut, a Green Lantern design that never got used. Concept artist Jerad S. Marantz recently posted on Instagram the early design of Tomar-Re, a popular alien Green Lantern from the comics.
Tomar-Re was planned to show up in Snyder’s version of the movie, but that idea was dropped before the film was finished. Marantz shared the artwork and said, “Tomar-Re! One of my absolute favorite Green Lanterns. Almost forgot about this guy. I got the chance to do a pass on the character for Justice League a while back.”
He added that although the character was cut, fans did see the body of Kilowog, another Green Lantern, in the Snyder Cut.
Marantz also talked about how meaningful the project was for him. “Justice League was definitely a career highlight. I was able to work on some of my absolute favorite DC characters and I was able to work with some of the industry’s best artists from Los Angeles and the UK,” he said. He also gave a shout-out to the film’s costume designer, Michael Wilkinson, calling the experience “incredible.”
Tomar-Re is a longtime DC Comics character who comes from a bird-like alien race called the Xudarians. He first showed up in the comics back in 1961 in Green Lantern #6, created by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane. Fans may also remember him from the 2011 Green Lantern movie, where he was voiced by Geoffrey Rush.
According to Marantz, Tomar-Re was even included in one of the planned versions of the post-credits scene for the film, but that idea didn’t move forward either. Still, this concept art lets fans imagine what could’ve been. The reveal was first reported by Evolve, and the artwork came straight from Marantz’s Instagram post.
