Marvel fans are getting excited for the new movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is set to hit theaters in July 2025. This movie marks Marvel’s second reboot of the Fantastic Four, but this time, things feel fresh and different. The story brings a cosmic threat like never before, with the gigantic villain Galactus stealing the spotlight.

Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson, is not your everyday villain. He is an ancient, massive being who eats entire planets. Marvel Studios recently gave fans a brief but powerful glimpse of Galactus in a new teaser. Even though it’s just a quick shot, it’s clear that Galactus is huge, especially when you compare his size to the Human Torch.

The teaser confirms something fans have known for a while: Galactus will come to Earth and demand that Sue and Reed hand over their son, Franklin, to save the planet from destruction. This plot point has been hinted at in leaks and reports for over six months. It’s no surprise that Galactus has a special connection to Franklin, who is known in the comics to have almost unlimited powers.

Even though Galactus is basically a planet-eating “baby-snatcher,” Ralph Ineson doesn’t see the character as evil. “He’s a god of sorts… a big, planet-eating guy, simply doing what a big, planet-eating guy does,” Ineson explained. To prepare for the role, Ineson spent time alone on rooftops, trying to capture the calm and otherworldly energy of Galactus.

The movie’s director, Matt Shakman, described Galactus as a “humongous, 14-billion-year-old, planet-devouring cosmic vampire.” Galactus is so enormous in the film that previous teasers showed him walking through New York City, towering over the buildings.

Unlike many superhero movies, The Fantastic Four: First Steps doesn’t retell how the team formed. Instead, it jumps straight into the action. The world of the film mixes futuristic elements with a 1960s vibe, giving the movie a unique retro sci-fi feel. The Fantastic Four, played by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, are already working as a team. Now, they must face Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer.

Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, has been very eager to bring the Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He especially wanted to bring Galactus to life in a new way. To help the filmmakers understand Galactus’ presence, Feige showed clips of the character from the video game Fortnite Battle Royale.

Filming for the movie took place from July to November 2024 in England and Spain. The production team used many practical effects and aimed for a look that stands out from other Marvel movies. They drew inspiration from classic sci-fi films and mid-century design, giving the movie a cool vintage style.

Galactus is not just big in size but also a major force in the story. The filmmakers wanted to show him as more than just a monster. Ineson’s calm and powerful performance gives Galactus the feeling of a natural force, something ancient and unstoppable doing what he has always done.

With the release date getting closer, fans are eager to see how the Fantastic Four will deal with such a huge and powerful threat. They’re also curious to see how Ralph Ineson’s Galactus fits into the bigger Marvel universe.
