Ross Duffer, one of the show’s co-creators, said, “With animation there’s really no limits. Eric and his team can just go wild … and they have.” The series is led by showrunner Eric Robles, who is executive producing through Flying Bark Productions. He added, “The series will capture the magic of Hawkins in a new way. Get your flashlight, get your backpack because it’s going to be amazing.”

The story is set in 1985 during a cold Hawkins winter. The original characters will face new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery threatening their town. Robles teased, “We soon learn that nothing is quite as they thought it was.”

The cast includes Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Ben Plessala as Will, and Brett Gipson as Hopper. Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips will also appear in the series.

Ross Duffer shared that the idea for the show came from early discussions about expanding the Stranger Things universe. “When we started talking about was there anything else we wanted to do with Stranger Things, this was one of our first ideas,” he said.
