New ‘Men in Black’ Film Now in the Works – Here Are The Details
Sony Pictures is moving ahead with plans to bring back the Men in Black franchise, according to a report from Deadline.
The studio has started early development on a new movie in the series. There is no cast or director yet, but reports say Chris Bremner, who worked on Bad Boys for Life, has been hired to write the script. Sony has not commented on the project.
People with knowledge of the situation told Deadline that once Bremner finishes the script, Will Smith is expected to be among the first to read it.
The hope is that he might return as Agent J. It is still unclear how big his role would be. He could take the lead again or appear in a smaller role that introduces a new main character. Sources made it clear that Smith is not attached at this stage and won’t make any decisions until he sees the script.
Men in Black started as a comic book before becoming a long-running sci-fi comedy series about a secret group that deals with alien activity on Earth. The franchise has grown over the years, expanding into several films, an animated show, games and more.
This new project marks the franchise’s first real progress in some time. With Bremner writing and the possibility of Smith returning, Sony appears ready to give the series another fresh start.
