“KPop Demon Hunters” continues to dominate Netflix, breaking records and showing no signs of slowing down.

The animated musical fantasy from Sony Pictures Animation recently celebrated its 15th consecutive week on Netflix’s Top 10 for English-language films, making it the longest-running title in that category.

Previously, “Red Notice” held the record with 14 total weeks on the chart, though it only spent 12 weeks in a row before briefly returning later.

“KPop Demon Hunters” has spent eight of those 15 weeks at number one and the remaining seven at number two.

The film has never dropped below the second spot, and in its 15th week alone, it racked up 19.3 million views, almost double the viewership of the second-place title, “Ruth & Boaz,” which debuted with 10.3 million views.

Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans have both hinted at the potential for expanding the story.

Kang told Screen Rant that the film’s universe still has many unexplored areas, including backstories for characters Mira and Zoey. Appelhans added to People that the story has “so many unanswered questions… and so many avenues that could be their own story.”

Under the existing agreement between Sony and Netflix, future installments of “KPop Demon Hunters” would go directly to Netflix. Matthew Belloni of Puck noted that Sony holds the contractual right to produce sequels, though theatrical releases remain unlikely.

Netflix is reportedly exploring multiple follow-up projects, including two sequels, a TV series, a short film, and even a stage musical.

Dan Lin, chairman of Netflix Films, told Newsweek that the company is “excited to explore what could be the next adventure” for the demon hunters. Lin emphasized the importance of preserving the original film’s unique style and story in any future projects.

Negotiations to bring back Kang and Appelhans for a follow-up are said to be underway, with reports from The Hollywood Reporter in August confirming that Sony is in talks with Netflix about creating an animated sequel.

Fans are eagerly awaiting more adventures from the “KPop Demon Hunters” universe, which has quickly become one of Netflix’s most successful and beloved animated releases.

The sustained success of “KPop Demon Hunters” shows the power of original storytelling on streaming platforms. The film’s mix of music, action, and strong character work has clearly struck a chord with audiences. It will be exciting to see how Netflix and Sony expand this universe while keeping the magic of the first movie intact.
