New Official Look Released for ‘Coyote vs. Acme’
Fans of Looney Tunes are getting a new look at the upcoming film Coyote vs. Acme, thanks to a new image released by Empire magazine.
The movie is a live-action animated comedy that follows Wile E. Coyote as he takes the Acme Corporation to court for selling him faulty products. The story is based on Ian Frazier’s 1990 The New Yorker article “Coyote v. Acme”, and it brings classic cartoon chaos to a legal comedy setting.
The film is directed by Dave Green, with a screenplay by Samy Burch based on a story by Burch, James Gunn, and Jeremy Slater.
The cast includes Will Forte as Kevin Avery, a struggling human lawyer who represents Coyote, and John Cena as Buddy Crane, the tough lawyer for Acme. Lana Condor plays Kevin’s niece Paige, while P. J. Byrne, Tone Bell, Martha Kelly, and Luis Guzmán round out the main cast. Longtime Looney Tunes voice actor Eric Bauza provides the voices for several classic characters. Director Dave Green confirmed that familiar faces like Tweety will appear in both supporting roles and cameo appearances.
Development on Coyote vs. Acme began in 2018, with Chris McKay producing and Jon and Josh Silberman writing the screenplay. Dave Green joined as director in late 2019, and Burch, Slater, and Gunn joined the project the following year. Filming took place in New Mexico from March to May 2022.
The film faced setbacks in November 2023 when Warner Bros. Discovery shelved it for a tax write-off, but the decision was reversed after public backlash. Filmmakers were allowed to seek other distributors, and Ketchup Entertainment acquired the rights in March. The movie is now set to release on August 28, 2026.
The plot centers on the growing friendship between Coyote and his lawyer Kevin Avery as they take on Acme in court. Their case pits them against Buddy Crane, Kevin’s former law firm boss, now representing Acme. The story promises to combine humor, heart, and the classic slapstick style of Looney Tunes.
