New Reports Give Hints Regarding Wonder Woman Actress in the DCU – Here’s What to Expect
It looks like DC Studios is getting closer to finding its next Wonder Woman, but things are still pretty unclear. The studio seems to be focusing on actresses with strong TV experience, similar to Milly Alcock, who became popular through House of the Dragon.
This fits with DC’s recent casting trend of choosing fresh TV faces over big Hollywood stars.
Insider Umberto Gonzalez shared interesting rumors on The Box Office Podcast. He said that Adria Arjona, who fans might recognize from Andor, is one of the top names being considered for Wonder Woman right now.
Gonzalez mentioned that Arjona’s TV background and her connections in Hollywood are working in her favor. He pointed out that her friendship with Jason Momoa, who will reportedly play Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie, could help her land the role.
He explained that DC seems to prefer “rising stars” like Arjona, instead of going after established big names. Gonzalez used David Corenswet as an example, he moved from TV to being the new Superman.
Fans have mixed feelings about Arjona possibly taking on the role. Some are excited to see her as Wonder Woman, but others aren’t so sure she’s the right choice.
Another guest on the podcast, Jeremy Brewster, wondered if Arjona’s work on Andor might complicate her chances. He even said she could “request a Nicholas Hoult salary”, meaning that her asking price might go up, which could be a problem for the film’s budget.
Speculation grew recently when James Gunn followed Arjona on Instagram. Fans immediately thought this meant she was getting the role, but Gunn later addressed it. In an interview with Extra, Gunn said he’s known Arjona for a long time after working with her on a movie years ago. He added that “She’d be a great Wonder Woman”, but made it clear that nothing has been decided yet.
As for when casting news will finally drop, Gonzalez believes updates on both Wonder Woman and Batman could be announced soon. Fans are eager to find out who will become the new faces of DC’s Justice League as the studio rebuilds its cinematic universe.
James Gunn, who is leading DC Studios along with Peter Safran, gave a small update during an interview with Urbana Play radio. He said that everything depends on the scripts. “I mean, it’s not going to be until the scripts are ready. So, both the scripts are being written now, and, if they’re good, then we’ll go into production immediately,” he explained.
Gunn stressed that he doesn’t want to rush anything. “So it really depends on how we can get the scripts done, because the one thing I’m just not going to do is go into production without a script that I feel is fantastic, especially for those characters who deserve the best. I’d rather wait a year than go too soon.”
As of now, Wonder Woman’s future in the DC Universe is still a mystery. The third movie with Gal Gadot was cancelled, leaving fans wondering who will replace her. Gunn has said that a new Wonder Woman film is planned, but casting hasn’t officially started yet.
There’s also another project happening alongside the film, a show called Paradise Lost, which will tell the story of Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s home, long before she becomes part of the main DC storyline.
So, for now, fans will have to wait and see who picks up the lasso.
