New Reports Reveal the Characters Coming to ‘Marvel Zombies’

Marvel Zombies is an animated miniseries coming soon to Disney+, created by Zeb Wells and based on the popular Marvel Comics series. It’s part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but is not part of the Sacred Timeline, and will be the 16th TV series produced by Marvel Studios Animation.

The story picks up from the “What If… Zombies?!” episode of the animated show What If…? that aired in 2021. This series follows a group of survivors who are trying to stay alive while facing former heroes and villains who have turned into zombies. Bryan Andrews is the showrunner and director, with Zeb Wells as the head writer.

The show features a strong cast of characters voiced by actors who have appeared in previous MCU projects. Awkwafina plays Katy, Shang-Chi’s best friend, while David Harbour returns as Red Guardian, a Russian super-soldier and father figure to Yelena Belova. Simu Liu voices Shang-Chi, a martial artist who was bitten by a zombie but uses the magical Ten Rings to stop the infection from spreading.

Elizabeth Olsen is back as Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch, who has become a powerful zombie capable of chaos magic and reality manipulation. Randall Park reprises his role as Jimmy Woo, Florence Pugh plays Yelena Belova, Hailee Steinfeld is Kate Bishop, Dominique Thorne is Riri Williams (Ironheart), and Iman Vellani returns as Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel). Iman Vellani shared that her character is “the Frodo of the story,” comparing her role to Frodo Baggins from The Lord of the Rings.

Hudson Thames also returns as Peter Parker (Spider-Man), along with other familiar faces such as Death Dealer, Blade/Moon Knight, and Xu Wenwu. On the zombie side, fans can expect to see infected versions of Clint Barton (Hawkeye), Steve Rogers (Captain America), Emil Blonsky (Abomination), Ava Starr (Ghost), Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel), Ikaris, and Okoye.

New information from Nexus Point News reveals that more characters will appear, including Black Panther, Thor, Valkyrie, Namor, Baron Zemo, John Walker, and Melina Vostokoff. It’s unclear if these characters will be survivors or zombies, leaving fans eager to see what roles they will play.

Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff is expected to be a major villain in the series. Having already shown her deadly power in What If…?, Wanda is described as a “nearly unstoppable force” because of her chaos magic and zombie hunger. She even survived a battle against the Hulk, who is also set to appear in Marvel Zombies.

Other returning characters confirmed for the show include Scott Lang’s Head (from the What If…? episode), Thanos, and Blade Knight. Joining them will be best friends Riri Williams, Kate Bishop, and Kamala Khan, forming a notable group within the series.
