New ‘Supergirl’ TV Spot Shows Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El Unleashed
DC Studios has shared a new TV spot for Supergirl, giving fans another look at the next big movie in its rebooted universe. The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El and is set to arrive in theaters in 2026. It will be the second movie in the new DC Universe, following Superman in 2025.
The new footage focuses on action, anger, and speed. It makes clear this version of Supergirl is not light or playful. Kara is shown as intense and driven, moving across space with purpose. The TV spot supports what DC Studios has been saying for months. This story is darker and more emotional than past takes on the character.

Supergirl is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira. The film is produced by DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran. According to DC Studios, the movie is inspired by the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, but it tells the story in its own way.
In the film, Kara leaves behind what little peace she has and travels across the galaxy with her dog, Krypto. Along the way, she meets a young girl named Ruthye. A violent event changes everything and pushes Kara into a revenge-driven journey. This version of Supergirl has lived through loss since childhood and carries that pain with her.
James Gunn has spoken before about how different this Kara is from Superman. He once described her as “pixie-ish, but very attitudinal.” Both Gunn and Gillespie have also said she should be seen as an antihero, not a classic hero.
The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Kara’s parents, and Jason Momoa as Lobo, a rough and violent bounty hunter. David Corenswet also appears as Superman, returning from his upcoming solo film. Krypto the dog is part of the story as well.
This project took years to come together. A Supergirl movie was first planned under the old DC Extended Universe, and the character appeared briefly in The Flash in 2023, played by Sasha Calle. Everything changed after Gunn and Safran took control of DC Studios in 2022 and reset the franchise. The new Supergirl film was officially announced in early 2023.
Filming took place in England and Scotland between January and May 2025. Warner Bros. Pictures plans to release Supergirl in theaters and IMAX on June 26, 2026. The movie will be part of DCU Chapter One, titled Gods and Monsters.
