A new teaser has arrived for HBO’s upcoming superhero series Lanterns, and fans won’t have to wait long for the full trailer, which is set to drop tomorrow. The show is based on DC Comics’ Green Lantern characters, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, and promises a mix of mystery, action, and intergalactic heroics.

Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, Lanterns is the third television series in the DC Universe (DCU) and follows the two Green Lanterns as they investigate a murder on Earth. The series is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television, with Mundy serving as showrunner.

Kyle Chandler stars as Hal Jordan, a legendary Lantern nearing retirement who takes on the role of mentor for John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre. Pierre’s character is a new recruit, balancing his military discipline with an artistic side, which the creators say adds depth to the character. Chandler’s portrayal was inspired by real-life test pilot Chuck Yeager, giving Jordan a mix of wit and calm confidence.

Alongside them, Kelly Macdonald plays a dedicated sheriff named Kerry, while Nathan Fillion appears as Guy Gardner, a more high-strung version of the Green Lantern fan-favorite introduced in Superman (2025). Several recurring and guest roles expand the cast, including Ulrich Thomsen as the rogue Lantern Sinestro, Garret Dillahunt as the modern cowboy William Macon, and Nicole Ari Parker as John Stewart’s mother, Bernadette. Laura Linney and Paula Patton also join in undisclosed roles.

Lanterns was originally in development by Greg Berlanti in 2019, but it was redeveloped after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-CEOs of DC Studios in 2022. The series draws inspiration from detective shows like True Detective and Slow Horses, blending superhero action with mystery elements.

James Hawes, known for Slow Horses, directed the first two episodes, while Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov contributed to directing other episodes. Filming took place in Los Angeles from February to July 2025.

The series will consist of eight episodes and is part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, slated to premiere in mid-2026. Set in Nebraska, the show explores how the Green Lanterns’ investigation uncovers darker secrets, offering a grounded yet cosmic story.

This new teaser gives fans a glimpse of the intense tone and complex characters, and the full trailer tomorrow promises to reveal more about the mystery and action that awaits.
