A new teaser for Obsession, a horror film from writer and director Curry Barker, has just been released, giving audiences a first glimpse of what could be one of 2026’s breakout scares.
The film tells the story of Bear, played by Michael Johnston, a music store employee who comes across a supernatural toy and makes a wish for his childhood friend Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette, to fall in love with him. The story quickly spirals into dark and chilling territory. Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter also appear in supporting roles.

Obsession premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on September 5 as part of the Midnight Madness block. Shortly after, Focus Features reportedly entered talks to acquire global distribution rights, excluding France, New Zealand, and Russia, for over $15 million. The deal was finalized in October. The film was also featured at the first-ever FocusFest on October 18 and is now scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release on May 15, 2026.
Critics who have seen Obsession so far are responding positively. On Rotten Tomatoes, 97% of 33 reviews are favorable, suggesting that the film has strong early buzz.
The teaser itself hints at the creepy and suspenseful tone of the film, focusing on Bear’s twisted attempts to win Nikki’s heart and the terrifying consequences of meddling with supernatural forces.
