NieR: Automata was released back in 2017 as a long-awaited sequel to the cult classic PS3 game NieR, thus expanding on the original universe in the best possible way. And while the original game by Yoko Taro received mixed reviews – the story and the characters, as well as the music, received absolute acclaim, while the graphics and the gameplay were criticized – NieR: Automata became an absolute hit, surpassing all expectations with over 6 million copies sold worldwide. On the fifth anniversary of the game, it was announced that NieR: Automata would be getting an anime adaptation, titled NieR: Automata Ver1.1a, thus becoming the first installment of Taro’s games to receive such recognition. In honor of that, we have decided to give you a full watch order of the NieR anime series.

How many NieR anime seasons and episodes are there?

As of the time of writing this article, the Nier: Automata Ver1.1a anime still hasn’t aired, as it is set for a January 8, 2023 release. At the moment, it is not known how many episodes the first season is going to have, what its structure is going to be, and, ultimately, whether it is going to be continued or not. So far, there is one scheduled season with an unknown number of episodes.

In what order should you watch NieR anime?

NieR fans will definitely need to start off with the very first season of Nier: Automata Ver1.1a to begin the story, following through in the episode’s numerical progression until the season’s conclusion, once the series starts. Since there is only one season so far, you should simply watch the episodes as they are released on a weekly basis until more content is available in the future. Now, we don’t know how the series is going to be tied to the NieR: Automata video game, so we don’t know how much lore you’ll need to be acquainted with, but you can always check out our guide below.

At the time of writing, Nier: Automata Ver1.1a has not yet aired. The series is set for a January 8, 2023 premier and at this point, we don’t have any plot-related details for you. We don’t even know how many episodes the series is going to have. What we do know is that we are going to update this article as soon as more information becomes available.
