Nintendo Says Games Will Always Have a Human Touch, Even with AI

Nintendo is staying true to its roots. While many companies are starting to use AI in game development, Nintendo says it won’t rely too much on it. Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo of America, recently talked about this in an interview with CNBC.
Bowser explained that AI is being talked about at Nintendo, but it’s not going to replace the way they make games. He said, “If developers choose to use AI, and it is a discussion right now at Nintendo, it’s not the only method of developing games.”
He made it clear that Nintendo values its developers and their creative skills more than anything. “We still believe that what makes our games special is our developers, their artistic capabilities, their insight into how people play,” Bowser said. He finished by saying, “There’s always, always going to be a human touch, and a human engagement in how we develop and build our games.”
This means Nintendo wants to make sure their games feel personal, fun, and made with care—something they believe only people can do best.
This isn’t the first time Nintendo has spoken about AI. A few months ago, Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary creator of Mario, also said that Nintendo is being careful with the use of AI. He mentioned that “Nintendo would rather go in a different direction.”
While other companies may start using AI more and more, Nintendo wants to keep the magic and creativity of real people behind their games.
