Nintendo Switch 2 Might Finally Get Feature Fans Have Wanted Since Day One
Fans have been asking Nintendo for years to let them change how the Switch home screen looks, and now it sounds like that might finally happen with the Nintendo Switch 2. According to a new report, themes could be added to the new console, a feature that’s been requested ever since the original Switch came out in 2017.
The report comes from Nintendo insider Nash Weedle, who has leaked correct info before, though not every time. So while this isn’t official, it’s still gotten people excited. He claims that Nintendo is planning to include themes for the home screen on the Switch 2, allowing users to personalize the look of their console.
Right now, the original Nintendo Switch only has a basic light or dark mode, and nothing else. This new feature could finally add some color and variety to the system menu, which fans have been asking about for years.
The report doesn’t explain what kinds of themes are being planned or how many there might be. It also doesn’t say whether the themes will move like dynamic backgrounds or be still images, or if users will be able to buy or unlock them.

There’s one small downside, according to the source, the feature won’t be ready this year. “It seems they won’t arrive this year,” the report says. That might mean they’ll come sometime in 2025, but there’s no confirmation yet.
It’s also important to note that the info comes through translation, and sometimes smaller details can get lost that way. So while the basics seem clear, Nintendo hasn’t said anything official about themes or customization for the Switch 2.
And if themes are coming, don’t be surprised if they’re only available to people who pay for Nintendo Switch Online. That’s what Nintendo has done with extra profile icons and other small features in the past. So it’s possible that some or most of the themes could be behind that same paywall.
So far, Nintendo hasn’t commented on the report, and they usually don’t respond to leaks or rumors like this. But if they do say something, we’ll know more. Until then, fans will have to wait and see if the Switch 2 finally delivers something they’ve been hoping to get since day one.
