Noah Hawley Talks About the Chances of ‘Alien: Earth’ Getting a Season 2
The new series Alien: Earth has quickly become a major talking point among science fiction fans. The show ended its first season with a dramatic cliffhanger, leaving audiences wondering if a second season is on the way.
The series, created by Noah Hawley, is set just before the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien. It features Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, Adarsh Gourav, and Timothy Olyphant in leading roles. Ridley Scott also serves as executive producer.
The project has been in the works for years. Plans first surfaced in 2019, but production faced delays due to the pandemic and later the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
Filming finally resumed in 2024 and wrapped by July. The show premiered on August 12, airing on FX and FX on Hulu in the U.S. and streaming on Disney+ internationally.
So far, Disney has not confirmed a second season. Still, Hawley has made it clear he is eager to continue. In an interview with Polygon, he said, “I’m pretty confident, given the show’s success, that we’ll get to make more. The risk is the reward.”
Sydney Chandler, who plays Wendy, also expressed her excitement about possibly returning. She told Polygon, “As Noah said, not enough people died in Season 1. So if we go to Season 2, it’s happening, which is terrifying. As an actor, you’re like: please don’t let it be me.”
Variety has reported that Hawley has not started work on a new season yet. According to him, the process is still at a discussion stage, but he and his team are ready to act as soon as Disney gives the green light. “The moment they fire the starting gun, I’m out of the block,” he explained.
For now, the future of Alien: Earth is uncertain, but both the creator and the cast appear ready to return if given the chance.
The first season has set up something special, and it would be a shame if the story ended here. The mix of classic Alien horror and Hawley’s style has clearly struck a chord with viewers.
