‘Nobody Wants This’ Creator Erin Foster Responds to Adam Brody’s Palestine Comments, Saying She Disagrees but Still Loves Him
The third season of ‘Nobody Wants This’ has arrived on Netflix, but some of the biggest conversations surrounding the hit romantic comedy are happening off-screen. The 6-time Golden Globe-nominated series stars Kristen Bell as agnostic podcaster Joanne and Adam Brody as Rabbi Noah Roklov, with a story inspired by creator Erin Foster’s relationship with her husband, music executive Simon Tikhman, and her own conversion to Judaism. Since its debut, Foster has described the show as a positive portrayal of Jewish life.
That framing has made recent comments from its leading man especially notable. In a late September interview with GQ focused on his political activism, including his volunteer work with the progressive organization Swing Left since 2018, Brody publicly addressed the war in Gaza for the first time.
He described it as a genocide, voiced support for a free Palestine, and expressed hope that a future US administration would change policies he believes have contributed to the suffering.
Now, Foster has shared her response. In an exclusive clip released by Entertainment Weekly from an upcoming October 27 episode of the ‘Not Skinny But Not Fat’ podcast hosted by Amanda Hirsch, Foster called the situation complicated. She said that while she loves Brody, she disagrees with him, adding that she believes that’s okay.
Foster compared the show’s work environment to dinner tables around the world, where people debate, discuss, and disagree. She also directly addressed the show’s audience, saying she wants Jewish fans to know that she sees and hears them and understands how they feel.

Foster made clear that her focus remains on the purpose of the series. She described ‘Nobody Wants This’ as a love letter to Judaism and said she wants it to offer positive representation of Jewish people at a time of deep division. At the same time, she emphasized that everyone is entitled to a different opinion.
Her stance on the conflict has long been public. Foster and her sister Sara, who are both behind the show, have used their social media platforms to express support for Israel and Jewish communities since October 7. Erin has also signed public letters opposing boycotts of Israeli cultural institutions and efforts to exclude Israel from the Eurovision Song Contest.

In his GQ interview, Brody explained that he had discussed the issue often in private but rarely publicly. He said he simply answers the questions he’s asked, noting that most of his press appearances focus on the show, and insisted he has never dodged a political question. Brody, who isn’t on social media, said staying offline has been the healthiest choice for him.
Brody grew up in a Jewish family, though he previously told Variety that he isn’t religious. He has also said he had a bar mitzvah but knew relatively little about Judaism before taking on the role of Noah.
Foster isn’t the first person tied to the series to respond. Rabbi Steve Leder, who served as a consultant on the show’s first season, shared an Instagram video criticizing Brody’s remarks, rejecting his use of the word genocide and taking aim at his understanding of the conflict.
Brody has also found support from others in Hollywood, joining Jewish actors such as Hannah Einbinder and Wallace Shawn who have publicly criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza. The differing reactions reflect how divided public opinion on the issue remains.

For now, Foster appears focused on keeping the show’s mission intact while acknowledging that disagreement exists within its own creative family. Season 3 of ‘Nobody Wants This’, which also features a guest appearance from Foster, is now streaming on Netflix.
How do you feel about Erin Foster publicly disagreeing with Adam Brody while still expressing her love for him?
