‘Off Campus’ Breakout Mika Abdalla Wants Her Next Role To Be A Bond Girl
Mika Abdalla has spent nearly two decades working steadily in front of the camera, but only this year did the rest of the world really start paying attention. The Texas born actress built her resume on small parts and supporting roles before landing the part that turned her into one of streaming’s most talked about new faces. Her sudden rise says a lot about how quickly a single show can change a career.
That show is ‘Off Campus’, Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s bestselling hockey romance novels, centered on the Briar University team and the women in their orbit. The series spotlights a different central couple each season, with the first book focused on Hannah and Garrett before the story shifts toward Allie Hayes and Dean Di Laurentis. It premiered on May 13, which also happened to be Abdalla’s own birthday, and quickly became one of Prime Video’s most popular original titles almost overnight.
Now that ‘Off Campus’ has made her a household name with young viewers, Abdalla is getting candid about what she wants next, and it has nothing to do with hockey rinks. In a new interview, the actress told Hunger Magazine that becoming a Bond girl is a longtime dream of hers, admitting, “I want to be a Bond girl so bad. I’ve seen every film at least three times.” The admission, shared via Hunger Magazine, spread quickly among fans who are already imagining Abdalla in a far glossier, more action driven world.
The timing is notable, since the James Bond franchise itself is in the middle of a major transformation. Amazon MGM Studios took full creative control of the series after years of negotiations with longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, and the studio has since brought on Denis Villeneuve to direct, Steven Knight to write the script, and Amy Pascal and David Heyman to produce. Casting director Nina Gold has reportedly been auditioning actors for the next 007 in recent weeks, though Amazon MGM has stayed quiet on every detail, including who might eventually star opposite him.
For now, Abdalla’s energy remains focused on ‘Off Campus’ itself, where she has been confirmed to lead the upcoming second season alongside costar Stephen Kalyn. The new season adapts the third novel in Kennedy’s series and shifts the show’s center of gravity fully onto Allie and Dean’s slow burn romance. Discussing her chemistry with Kalyn ahead of filming, Abdalla told The Hollywood Reporter that she truly loves working with him, adding that the two share similar insecurities and doubts as performers.
Between a breakout streaming hit and a very public crush on the world of 007, Abdalla’s name is suddenly hard to avoid. Whether Amazon MGM ever comes calling is impossible to predict, but it is easy to picture her holding her own across from a martini and a tailored tuxedo. With ‘Off Campus’ season two already filming, fans hoping to see Allie Hayes eventually evolve into a Bond girl will have plenty to speculate about in the meantime, so does Mika Abdalla have what it takes to become 007’s next leading lady?
