Once a 2000s Heartthrob, This Actor Has Changed Completely And is Now Completely Unrecognizable
Michael Vartan, the 2000s heartthrob best known for Alias, looks almost unrecognizable these days. The 57-year-old actor was spotted grocery shopping in Los Angeles on Monday, dressed casually in a black hoodie, Puma pants, and a Los Angeles Kings hat. Sporting a gray beard and glasses, Vartan’s appearance is a far cry from the clean-cut image fans remember from his Hollywood heyday.

Vartan shot to fame playing Michael Vaughn on Alias from 2001 to 2006, where he starred opposite Jennifer Garner. The two even dated briefly in 2003. He also appeared in rom-coms like Never Been Kissed with Drew Barrymore and Monster-in-Law with Jennifer Lopez.
His last acting credit was a guest spot on CBS’ God Friended Me in 2018, though he remains friendly with many of his former co-stars. In 2023, Garner wished him a happy birthday on Instagram, posting a still from Alias and writing, “I can’t remember why I was Bavarian, but I do know today is your birthday. Hope it’s a great one, Michael!”
In a 2021 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Vartan even shared a behind-the-scenes memory from Never Been Kissed. “So, I get up to the mound, we embrace, and we start kissing. And you really kissed me. I mean, you really kissed me,” he recalled to Barrymore.
Vartan has continued to work steadily, though mostly in smaller roles and international films. He appeared in European films like Fiorile, played supporting roles in movies like One Hour Photo and Monster-in-Law, and starred in Jolene in 2008. On television, he has appeared in Friends, Ally McBeal, Kitchen Confidential, Big Shots, and TNT’s Hawthorne. He also played Terence Anderson on the E! drama The Arrangement.
Outside of acting, Vartan co-hosts a live sports program called Advanced Shouting on YouTube and Facebook with friends Dan Petriw and Noel Fogelman. He is also a devoted fan of Australian rules football, particularly the Carlton team, and owns a dog named Millie.
Vartan’s personal life has seen ups and downs. After dating Jennifer Garner, he got engaged to Lauren Skaar in 2010 after meeting her at a Whole Foods parking lot in Los Angeles. They married in 2011 but divorced in 2014. Despite stepping back from Hollywood, Vartan seems to enjoy a quieter life, embracing hobbies like sports and spending time with his dog.
It’s striking to see how much Vartan has changed since his heartthrob days. He may not be in the Hollywood spotlight as much, but he seems happy and grounded living life on his own terms. What do you think of Michael Vartan’s new look? Share your thoughts in the comments.
