One of Netflix’s Most Acclaimed Early Original Series Is Leaving Next Month

Back in the early days of Netflix’s original programming boom, few shows came out of nowhere quite like ‘The End of the F***ing World’. The darkly comic British series about 2 teenage outsiders on a chaotic road trip became an unexpected word-of-mouth phenomenon.

Its success even surprised the people at the top. Ted Sarandos, now Netflix’s co-CEO, told Vulture in 2018 that the show’s level of popularity was astounding, and it has since been ranked among the best Netflix series ever made.

Now fans have a deadline. According to What’s on Netflix, a “Last day to watch on Netflix” notice has appeared on the service, confirming that November 4 will be the final day to stream the series before it departs the library on November 5.

The answer comes down to how the show was made. ‘The End of the F***ing World’ was originally commissioned by Channel 4 in the UK, with Netflix stepping in as a co-producer and exclusive international distributor.

That means Netflix never owned the series outright. As with many shows labeled as Netflix Originals, its time on the platform was always tied to a licensing arrangement that is now coming to an end.

Men’s Journal reports that the series will be leaving Netflix globally. It’s part of a broader wave, with more than 100 Netflix Originals scheduled to depart throughout 2026. The show is based on Charles Forsman’s minicomics of the same name, which were published between 2011 and 2013. Jonathan Entwistle created the series, while Charlie Covell wrote it.

Alex Lawther and Jessica Barden starred as James and Alyssa, the teenage misfits who ditch school and their families for a road trip that takes a dark turn. Naomi Ackie later joined the cast for the second season, and Blur’s Graham Coxon composed the music.

The first season premiered on Channel 4 on October 24, 2017, before arriving on Netflix internationally in January 2018. Season 2 premiered on Channel 4 on November 4, 2019, and landed on Netflix the following day.

Fans hoping for more were left disappointed. Covell made clear in an interview with the Radio Times that she was done with the story, confirming the show would not return for a third season.

That makes the series a complete, self-contained experience. With just 2 seasons of 8 episodes each, and most episodes running around 20 minutes, it’s an easy show to finish before it disappears.

‘The End of the F***ing World’ isn’t the only beloved title leaving in November. ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’ is also set to depart on November 25. What’s on Netflix has called November a brutal month for Original removals. Other notable shows scheduled to leave in 2026 have included ‘Arrested Development’ and ‘The Last Kingdom’.

For fans of James and Alyssa’s offbeat journey, the message is simple: there’s still time for one last binge. With fewer than 4 weeks left, now is the perfect moment to revisit one of Netflix’s earliest international hits.

Will you rewatch ‘The End of the F***ing World’ before it leaves Netflix?
