A new One Piece anime focusing on the female characters from the series is officially on its way. The announcement was made during the One Piece Day event in Tokyo. This upcoming adaptation is based on the One Piece Novel Heroines light novel series, which tells short stories about the women of the One Piece world.

The anime will have a different art style from the main One Piece series, as seen in a teaser image featuring characters like Nami and Robin. The official One Piece Twitter account shared a message saying, “Enjoy episodes that depict the charm of heroines not seen in the main story.” This shows the series will dive into parts of the story that fans haven’t gotten to see before.

The original novels were written by Jun Esaka and illustrated by Sayaka Suwa. There are two volumes so far, which include stories about well-known characters such as Nami, Robin, Vivi, Perona, Hancock, Tashigi, Reiju, and Uta. The anime adaptation will be directed by Haruka Kamatani, with character designs by Takashi Kojima. The scripts will be handled by Momoka Toyoda, who has worked before on One Piece: Fan Letter.

This new anime isn’t the only One Piece project happening. Netflix and WIT Studio are also working on a full remake of Eiichiro Oda’s original series, which will have its own unique style.

Despite the excitement about new One Piece content, some fans are not thrilled with this particular announcement. Many feel that the focus on the heroines isn’t what they were hoping for. Some fans voiced their thoughts online, saying things like, “They should animate the Ace Manga/Novel. That would be so good with a proper studio behind it.” Others mentioned wanting to see the story of Law animated as well. One fan even wrote about how Ace’s story could be made into a full movie, covering his whole life from birth to his time as a pirate.

Fans seem frustrated that projects like the Shokugeki no Sanji manga or other popular stories aren’t getting adaptations, while the focus is on something they feel is less exciting.

Still, this new anime promises to show a fresh side of the One Piece world by highlighting its female characters in a way that the main series hasn’t done. Whether fans will warm up to this new take remains to be seen, but it’s clear that the One Piece universe continues to grow in many directions.
