‘Outlander’ Star David Berry Joins New R-Rated Wedding Comedy from Director Gary Sinyor

Australian actor David Berry, who many know from shows like Outlander and A Place to Call Home, is set to star in a new R-rated comedy about marriage. The film is being developed by British director Gary Sinyor, who is returning to shoot a movie in the U.S. for the first time in over two decades.

His last American project was The Bachelor, released back in 1999.

The film hasn’t started production yet, but Sinyor is working on getting it off the ground and is currently talking to possible investors. The movie will tell the story of a man getting married for the second time and a woman entering her first marriage.

The story is based on Sinyor’s own experiences and is expected to mix heartfelt moments with awkward and funny situations.

Berry and Sinyor previously worked together on the TV show Hapless, which can be streamed on Peacock in the U.S. and on Prime Video in the UK. That project helped build a strong working relationship between the two, which is now continuing into this new comedy.

Sinyor had high praise for Berry, saying, “David has a laidback Aussie charm which conflicts superbly with the rude chaos that surrounds him in the project. Now we just have to find his equally charming bride.” He also mentioned that the casting team is considering both internet personalities and more traditional actors for other roles. “We’re looking at funny funny people on social media as well as established talent,” he said.

According to Sinyor, one of the goals is to give newer performers from online platforms a shot at the big screen. “Something Blue should help a few actors with star potential cross over from the online world into the mainstream cinema,” he explained.

Even though many films are now being made outside of the U.S. due to better financial incentives, Sinyor said he wants to return to filming in America. “It’s been too long since I’ve filmed in the U.S. Some say Hollywood has given up on comedy, but comedy should never give up on Hollywood,” he said. He added that shooting in the U.S. also means supporting a once-strong industry known for its big comedies.

The film doesn’t have a full cast yet, and there’s no start date for production, but with Berry on board and Sinyor eager to bring the story to life, the project is picking up speed.

It’s always good to see actors like David Berry trying something different, especially in comedy. The mix of real-life inspiration and fresh talent might make this film worth watching.
