Paramount+ Shocks Fans by Cancelling 82%-Rated Hit After Just One Season
Paramount+ has decided to end “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” after just one season. The streaming service and CBS Studios confirmed that the spinoff will not return for a second run.
The series brought back two of the most popular characters in the long-running “NCIS” franchise. Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo reunited as Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, more than a decade after both actors left the original show. The story followed their lives years later as they raised their daughter and faced new dangers together in Europe.
In a joint statement, Weatherly and de Pablo thanked everyone involved with the project and shared their appreciation for fans. “We feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to play these characters once again and to tell the next chapter of Tony and Ziva’s story,” they said.
They also added that they were grateful to the cast, crew, and viewers who supported the show and allowed the characters to reach what felt like a true ending.
The 10-episode series premiered on Paramount+ on September 4. While the debut performed well at first, viewership dropped sharply over the next few episodes. Data from Luminate showed a decline of more than half by the time the third episode was released. That drop appears to have played a role in the cancellation.
Along with Weatherly and de Pablo, the cast included Amita Suman, Maximilian Osinski, Julian Ovenden, Nassima Benchicou, Lara Rossi, Isla Gie, Terence Maynard, and James D’Arcy. The show was led by showrunner John McNamara, who also served as an executive producer alongside the lead actors and several others. The series was produced by CBS Studios.
Even though the show is ending, all episodes of “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” will remain available to stream on Paramount+.
