‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Finally Sets the Record Straight on Season 1’s Most Talked-About Scene
Peacemaker’s place in the new DC Universe has finally been cleared up. HBO Max’s Peacemaker Season 2 premiere fixes the controversial Justice League cameo from the end of Season 1.
At the Season 1 finale, Peacemaker (John Cena) had just finished fighting the extraterrestrial Butterflies and was carrying an unconscious Harcourt (Jennifer Holland). Suddenly, the Justice League appeared, including Ezra Miller’s Flash, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, and silhouetted versions of Superman and Wonder Woman.
Batman and Cyborg were supposed to appear too, but their cameos were removed. “There are reasons for [their absences],” creator James Gunn explained at the time. “It might have to do with future stuff.”
History has been rewritten. ‘PEACEMAKER’ Season 2 swaps out the Justice League for Superman, Supergirl & the Justice Gang.

The scene included Peacemaker calling the Justice League “You’re late, you f**** d*****” and a joke about Aquaman and fish, which Barry briefly references.
But with DC Studios rebooting the universe under Gunn and Peter Safran, the team needed a clean slate. Gunn said, “They don’t exist yet. But the rule is: If we mention [something from the past] in one of the new DCU shows [and movies], then it happened. That’s the way we’re dealing with it.”
The Season 2 premiere opens with a “Previously in the DCU” recap, covering Season 1 up to the final battle. Several shots from the original finale were altered to replace the Justice League with the Justice Gang introduced in Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie.
The Justice Gang includes Superman, Hawkgirl/Kendra Saunders, Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific, and Supergirl, played by David Corenswet, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, and Milly Alcock.
The retouched scenes add small jokes and character beats, like Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) calling Amanda Waller to ask for the Justice Gang, and Peacemaker teasing Guy Gardner’s “puke fetish.”
The classic line “You’re late, you f***** d*****” remains, but the silhouettes now match the Justice Gang. Merced’s Hawkgirl quips, “What a meathead,” and Fillion’s Guy adds, “Screw that guy. You know he tells people I’m a puke freak…?”
Later in the episode, Peacemaker is even interviewed for a position with the Justice Gang, alongside Kendra, Guy, and Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn). With these edits, Season 2 finally sets Peacemaker firmly in the new DCU and resolves the most talked-about scene from Season 1.
