‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Trailer Shown With ‘Superman’ Screenings Just Leaked – it Hints at Big Universe Shift
The new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 has leaked, and fans have some moviegoers to thank for it. The short trailer was shown ahead of early screenings of Superman, and it didn’t take long before descriptions hit the internet.
Even though it’s brief, the teaser gives a big clue about how the show will shift from the old DCEU to James Gunn’s new DC Universe.

In the trailer, Cena says, “There’s another dimension. That’s exactly the same as ours. But it’s better.” That one line pretty much confirms what fans have been wondering for a while how exactly the transition between the two cinematic universes will work.
James Gunn already confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be part of the new DCU. According to Gunn, the shift from one universe to the other will make sense and won’t confuse anyone. He also said that Season 1 is mostly canon in the new timeline, except for one key moment.
“The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League… which we will kind of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker,” Gunn explained during a fan Q&A.
The new season brings back John Cena as Christopher Smith, better known as Peacemaker. It picks up after the events of Season 1 and continues to follow the brutal but strangely likable mercenary. Like last time, Gunn is writing and directing all eight episodes himself.
Production on the season took longer than expected. It was first announced back in February 2022, but work slowed down after Gunn became co-head of DC Studios. He had to focus on other projects like Superman.
A spin-off show about Amanda Waller was going to happen first, but after the writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023, the plans changed. Gunn said in March 2024 that Peacemaker Season 2 would go ahead before Waller.
Some scenes were shot in April 2024 alongside the Superman film at Trilith Studios in Atlanta. Full filming began in June and wrapped up in November.
Season 2 of Peacemaker will stream on HBO Max starting August 21, 2025. It’ll have eight episodes, and now fans have even more reason to look forward to it. especially after that teaser.
