Peacock has canceled Poker Face after two seasons, but the show’s creators are looking for a way to continue the story.

Sources tell Deadline that director Rian Johnson and producer Natasha Lyonne are trying to bring the series back with a new twist.

In the new version, Peter Dinklage would take over the lead role of Charlie Cale from Lyonne. Johnson plans to rotate the lead actor every two seasons.

Lyonne would remain involved as an executive producer, and Johnson would continue to write and direct. It is still unclear who would serve as showrunner, though the first season was led by Nora Zuckerman and Lilla Zuckerman, and Tony Tost ran the second season.

Johnson and Lyonne shared a statement about their plans: “We’ve been germinating this next move together since writing the season two finale. We love our ‘Poker Face’ and this is the perfect way to keep it rolling. Give us a beat and we may just see Charlie Cale again down that open highway.”

Poker Face originally premiered in 2021. Inspired by classic mystery-of-the-week shows like Columbo, it followed Charlie Cale, a traveling detective with a talent for spotting lies. The show featured many guest stars, including John Mulaney as a corrupt FBI agent and Cynthia Erivo in a multi-role appearance.

Across its two seasons, the series earned six Emmy nominations and won one for Judith Light’s guest performance. The show is produced by MRC and T-Street.
