Netflix and the BBC have officially ordered a new Peaky Blinders sequel series, giving fans two seasons that will continue the story of the Shelby family.

The upcoming show will be created by Steven Knight, who confirmed the news in a statement. “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride,” Knight said.

The sequel will feature two seasons of six episodes each. The producers shared a short synopsis setting the stage: “Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel.”

“In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger, with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

The new series will be filmed at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham. It will be produced by Banijay UK’s Kudos along with Garrison Drama, the same company behind the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie directed by Tom Harper, which is currently in post-production.

Peaky Blinders first premiered on BBC Two in 2013 before Netflix picked up the international rights, introducing the Shelby family drama to a worldwide audience. The show became a global hit and earned critical acclaim during its run.

Critics praised its mix of crime, history, and style. The Guardian described it as a “riveting, fast-paced tale of post-first world war Birmingham gangsters” and praised Cillian Murphy’s cool and commanding performance as Tommy Shelby.

The Telegraph gave the show four out of five stars, calling it “original” and noting how it defied expectations. Other outlets such as Digital Spy and Den of Geek also celebrated the series for being sharp, stylish, and one of the BBC’s most intelligent dramas in years.

With the sequel now confirmed, fans can expect a new generation of Shelbys to take center stage, but the family’s violent and ambitious spirit will remain at the core of the story.
