Pedro Pascal, Kerry Washington, and other celebrities took part in protests across the United States on October 18 as part of No Kings Day, a nationwide event supporting free speech and opposing policies of President Donald Trump.

The demonstrations were held in cities from Los Angeles to New York, continuing a movement that began in June and has drawn support from stars like Jimmy Kimmel, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Mark Ruffalo.

Pascal attended a march in Los Angeles and shared photos on Instagram, writing, “PROTECT #Democracy.” Washington also posted images and a video from a protest, adding, “sending so much love and gratitude to everyone” who participated.

Other actors joined as well. Murray Bartlett from The White Lotus posted a selfie wearing a custom “No Kings” hat, commenting, “Wonderful to peacefully gather with community and stand up for the rights of all.” Cecily Strong shared clips from a Massachusetts demonstration, joking about her fellow protesters, while Billy Eichner posted from a march in New York, calling it a “peaceful march against fascist bullies.”

In Chicago, John Cusack joined a protest and told CNN, “If Trump thinks this place is going to be a fascist hub – no chance!” Bill Nye spoke in Washington, D.C., criticizing “this petulant president and his circle of sycophants.”

Organizers said the event is about protecting democracy and preventing what they see as authoritarian overreach. They compared it to the rule of King George III during the American Revolution. Mr. Dunn, one of the leaders behind No Kings, said, “We are uniting to demand that our representatives take a stand against Trump’s executive overreach to limit his power and to help us eventually remove the regime and restore democracy before it is too late.”

The coalition behind the protests includes more than 200 national groups and thousands of local organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union, the Service Employees International Union, and the American Federation of Teachers. Progressive organizations like Indivisible, 50501, and MoveOn have also played a key role.

Nonviolence is a core principle of the protests. Organizers train participants in de-escalation techniques, and the coalition’s website provides guidance on holding peaceful demonstrations.
